Preventing Falls & Accidents

+HOW DO THEY HAPPEN?
Slips and falls are often a common occurrence among the elderly and differently abled persons which leads to serious accidents and injuries in many cases. Generally, falls occur among seniors due to certain health conditions like loss of balance and impaired gait due to neurological disorders like Parkinson's disease, Ataxia or Foot drop and limited mobility in case of Arthritis, Vertigo, weakness of muscles and bones, Paraplegia, Quadriplegia or following a stroke. Seniors with limited vision, glaucoma, retinopathy can stumble and suffer from falls for which the caregivers must ensure that they are wearing their glasses during movement. Confusion from dementia or mental health issues can interfere with safe movement. Differently abled persons with cerebral palsy, autism or blindness are prone to accidental falls. If you are an older adult suffering from cardiac diseases or low blood pressure, you are at higher risk of falling due to occasional fainting. Falls can also happen due to the effect of pain medications or neurological drugs that have a sedative effect on the nervous system. Falls can be caused due to situational reasons like rushing or hurrying and environmental reasons like wet, slippery areas or highly polished floor surfaces.
+WHAT CAN I DO?
A wide range of products is available to provide protection from accidental falls and slips. Anti-slip tapes and strips are especially useful in specific zones like staircases, steps, corners, bathroom floor, bathtub and even ladders. Sure grip floor solution prevents falls in wet zones like bathrooms. For highly polished floors like marble or granite, anti-slip floor polish is helpful. Grab rails and folding grab bars provide additional support at turning points of the house during movement and also aid the elderly to safely get up after using the toilet or bathtub. Walking sticks and walkers are the most common equipment for better support to those with impaired walking. Solar lanterns, lamps, and glow-in-the-dark anti-slip tapes are specially curated for those with limited vision to help them walk safely at night or in dim light. Anti-slip silicone rolls and mats are beneficial for those with poor grip in hands due to Parkinson's disease, Arthritis, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Dupuytren's contracture or sprains and strains. SAFR monitor by SenseGiz is the most innovative product to send emergency alerts to caregivers about falls and crashes suffered by the elderly. These products may also be used at home by caregivers during post surgical recovery of a senior patient, to reduce the risk of complications arising from sudden falls and slips.
